"My name is Pamela. When I was twenty-five years old, I decided to have plastic surgery. I started out with DD breast implants because I wanted a larger chest.I liked them but I noticed that people would make jokes and things like that, so at that time I was still a medical student and it just didn’t seem like a good decision for me to keep the large breast implants.
"So, I had smaller implants put in three years after the first and I went from a DD down to a D size. I was told by my friends that I looked like Pamela Anderson so I decided to use Pamela Anderson as a model for what I wanted my features to look like. In addition to having smaller breast implants, I had also four additional procedures that included a chin implant, cheek implants, surgery on my eyelids, and on my nose.
“Ten months after I had silicone facial implants and saline breast implants, I became ill. I was having severe problems with my memory, swollen lymph nodes, skin rashes, my words were slurred, I had arthritis. I would stay in bed for up to sixteen hours a day. I cried when I walked. I would take Vicodin, Vicoprofen, Darvocets, Percocets, Somas. It was extremely frightening. I just wanted to know what was wrong. The more I kept going to see physicians, the more disheartened I became because none of them seemed to really be able to discover what my problem was. It was bad. It was really bad.
“After I had done research on the Internet and found Dr. Susan Kolb, she diagnosed me with Silicone Induced Immune Dysfunction Syndrome and said that it was directly caused by my implants. I felt so relieved that I met somebody who was able to help me.
"Five months ago I had my cheek implants, my chin implant, and my saline breast implants removed by Dr. Azurin in south Florida. He removed my implants. He really helped me.
"I do feel better since I’ve had my implants removed. I still have good days and bad days and room to improve. So, I just noticed the major improvement within the first few months after I had my implants removed and I was happy about that and now I noticed I’m still having problems and some days are worse than others. I just want to recover completely.
"I went through all of this because I wanted to be more attractive and I wanted to achieve a certain look. I’m not anti-plastic surgery, I just know that for myself I wouldn’t have surgery again that involvessilicone implants."
This web site is intended for educational purposes. I was asked to participate on this program in 2003 after my implants were removed. I hope that sharing my personal experience will help others make an informed decision about these procedures before they have surgery.
Not only was I diagnosed with silicone induced immune dysfunction syndrome but also atypical neurological disease and systemic candidiasis. Atypical neurological disease and silicone immune dysfunction are components of human adjuvant disease.
